Medical Compression Socks

Who can wear compression socks? The answer is anyone! Medical Compression Socks are a fantastic product for anyone who may sit all day, stand all day, have poor blood circulation, swelling in the feet and ankles, are pregnant, and so much more! The socks are a graduated compression, meaning the compression grade is higher around the ankle than it is around the calf which helps promote blood flow back up towards the heart. Not to mention, there are a ton of funky colours and patterns to choose from. The socks are very versatile as they can be worn at work, around the house, or even for hiking, sports and at the gym.

The difference between these and the performance socks is the degree of compression. Medical Compression Socks are 20-30 mmHg of compression which are considered medical-grade and can be covered by many private insurance policies with a doctor’s prescription. We take your measurements right in the clinic and the socks are delivered within 1-2 business days once ordered.

Performance Compression Socks

Performance Compression Socks offer a lighter grade of compression at 15-22 mmHg that is considered less than medical grade. This means you do not need a doctor’s referral in order to take advantage of their many benefits! These include:

  • increasing blood flow and oxygen delivery in your veins
  • protecting your legs from muscle vibrations and improve endurance
  • increasing recovery time
  • preventing spider veins

These benefits help those who suffer from tired, achy legs due to minor swelling from travelling, pregnancy, or just everyday life.

Orthopaedic Bracing

At ProActive Athletic Therapy, we have access to a variety of braces for sport injuries, post or pre-operative conditions or repetitive injuries. For example, we have knee braces for arthritis or ligament instabilities such as ACL Tears, forearm straps for Tennis or Golfer’s Elbow, and lumbar support braces for numerous pathologies.

After an initial assessment, we offer recommendations on bracing options that would best suit your situation, or even if a brace is the best option as part of your rehabilitation.

Custom knee braces are among the most popular brace we order. These are best known for treating osteoarthritis and ligamentous instabilities.

Benefits of wearing an off-loading custom knee brace for osteoarthritis:

  • Allows knee joint to open up, reducing friction between joint surfaces which in turn reduces knee pain.
  • Slows down the progression of degeneration within the joint.
  • Prolongs time before a knee replacement is needed.
  • Allows patient to continue with their physical activity painfree.
  • Custom braces provide the best fit for your knee and are fully functional.

If you are interested in ordering a brace, speak with one of our Athletic Therapists and they will be able to assist with the selection, fitting, and ordering process!
